What is VCON?

VCON is the oldest Science Fiction and Fantasy convention in Canada. VCON is Vancouver's own long-running science fiction, fantasy, and gaming convention. It is an annual gathering of fans to explore and celebrate those interests we have in common, and, of course, to enjoy ourselves. Essentially, it's a weekend-long combination playing, brainstorming, and partying with friends, new and old. It's where we get together with other fans, and with the pros who inspire us all.

Planet Janitor: Custodian of the Stars

I am pleased to announce that Engage Books has signed on Chris Stevenson for his novel Planet Janitor: Custodian of the Stars. This book is a space travel/adventure story and a perfect fit for our imprint Engage SF.

Previous missions:
Planetary job assignments that deal with cleaning up the environment and making close solar system jumps to pick up precious ores and space trash.

Captain Zaz Crowe's eight crew members aren’t exactly misfits, but they could use a new coat of paint and a clue brush. They’ve had bad press and bad luck.

New Mission:
Orion Industries Real Estate Development hires Planet Janitor for a clandestine operation that entails a 26-light-year trip out to a newly found habitable planet in the Tau Ceti system. While Planet Janitor is offered more money than they could spend in three lifetimes, the crew will lose 26 years on earth due to the coma jump. But that is the least of their problems. What they find on Tau Ceti Will test their wits, and threaten their very survival.

Visit for the latest update on Planet Janitor.

Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is nearing the end of his contract with Lunar. He`s been a faithful employee for 3 long years. His home has been Selene, a moon base where he has spent his days alone, mining Helium 3. The precious gas holds the key to reversing the Earth`s energy crisis. Isolated, determined and steadfast, Sam has followed the rulebook obediently and his time on the moon has been enlightening, but uneventful. The solitude has given him time to reflect on the mistakes of his past and work on his raging temper. But 2 weeks shy of his departure from Selene, Sam starts seeing things, hearing things and feeling strange. And when a routine extraction goes horribly wrong, he discovers that Lunar have their own plans for replacing him and the new recruit is eerily familiar. Before he can return to Earth, Sam has to confront himself and the discovery that the life he has created, may not be his own. It`s more than his contract that is set to expire.
